TASKIZAK DOCKYARD
Sultan Mehmed The Conqueror built it, in 1455. The dockyard is an example of Ottoman Empire’s apogee. It was the biggest dockyard or maritime arsenal of the world with its 300 ship construction part in the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, the Turkish Navy which made the Mediterranean Sea a Turkish lake, was constructed in this dockyard. The maritime arsenal, was used for five centuries.

In Taskizak Dockyard, first floating pool, and first steaming ship were constructed in 1827, in 1886 first two submarines named as Abdülhamid and Abdülmecid were build.

After the World War I, Istanbul was occupied by the allies and Taskizak Dockyard was closed. Benches and machines were transferred to Golcuk and a new dockyard was built there.

Following the agreement about straits in 1941, Taskizak Dockyard activated again with less engineers and workers and used as a pool and for repairing purposes, also little tonnage ships were constructed.

fter 1960, it was developed faster and today it is still used by the Turkish Navy.
