It is the mosque that was built by the order of Sultan Selim I, in
Damascus, in 1516. The mosque is covered by the cupola which is propped up pendants. In
front of the mosque there is the last community area that is 3 belted and closed by a
little cupola, and around this place there is the porch which is propped up by columns in
3 sides, and covered by an inclined roof that is 7 belted in front, 3 belted at sides.
There are 2 thin minarets on the north west and north east corners of the mosque. There
are 6 cells open to the porches, and covered by 12 little cupolas with pack-saddle belts,
at right and left places of the front courtyard. Besides these; there is a small mosque in
the west. |
