SADABAD PAVILION

Sadabad (in Persian means “A Hundred Prosperous Locale”), the name was given in the Period  of Tulip (Lale Devri) to the public amusement place located in between the Golden Horn and the brook of Kagıthane.

The bank of the Kagıthane Brook, was one of the amusement places people visit especially for the Hıdrellez entertainment. This beautiful place was reached with boats from the Golden Horn (Halic) or with carriages people were going from the land. The Hıdrellez entertainment was done annually there. In the 17th century, the place was lost its characteristic due to economical and social decline.

Sultan Ahmed III and Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damad İbrahim Pasha gave priority to this very important area during the renovation of Istanbul . A small pavilion named Sadabad was constructed in Alibeykoy and near the pavilion a mosque and a Turkish bath were built. The pavilion was constructed on two marble columns, and the upstairs of the pavilion there were wide sofas for entertainment. Environmental design was inspired from the Fontaineblau Palace in Paris. The bed of the Kagıthane Brook was changed and marble quays were made on both sides. The viziers and rich people were inclined to build pavilions there. Therefore, a lot of pavilions were built in the region.
