Rhodes is the island, located on the broad coasts of south western Anatolia, just on the passage where the Aegean Sea reaches the Mediterranean Sea, and it is the name of the main city of the island. The area of the island is 1401 square kilometres and have the length of 80 kilometres, and width of 38 kilometres. The highest point of the island is Atario Hill (1215 meters).

The island was possessed by the knights until it was captured by Sultan Suleyman the Magnificant in 1522. The island retained by the Ottoman Empire until 1912, in this year it was possessed by Italy with 12 islands, and in 1945 was given to Greece.
