MESCID-I HARAM
.

Mescid-i Haram is the mosque which encircles the most sacred places of Islam in its courtyard; as the Kabe, the Zemzem well, and Makam-ı İbrahim. The structure was built in the time of Hz. Mohammed and it was enlarged by Hz. Omer by demolishing the surrounding structures. By the time the mosque was added a lot of joints, and it took today’s shape in the 16th century with the parts added by Kanuni Sultan Süleyman (Soliman the Magnificent) and Sultan Selim II. Mescid-i Haram is the only mosque with seven minarets, also it is the only mosque which does not have an altar.

The structure is encircled in a 7 m high wall with the rectangular shape dimensions 110m x 162m. A very big courtyard is formed by the porch which head to end surrounds the inner part of the wall. Like Kabe Mescid-i Haram is formed in the way that the diagonals end at the corners. There are five doors at north-east front, eight doors in north-west front, four doors at south-west front and seven doors at south-east front.
