MESCID-I AKSA

The mosque is constructed in Jerusalem, on the Temple of Soliman. Mescid-i Aksa in Arabic means “the far mosque”. The Moslems were praying through the direction of Mescid-i Aksa, after the second year of Hicret (Mohammed’s immigration from Mecca to Medine) the Kabe is accepted as the direction of Namaz, all the Moslems started praying namaz by turning to the direction of Kabe.

Today, the Mosque located on the south part of Soliman’s Temple is regarded as Mescid-Aksa. During the Crusades, the mosque was captured by the Christians several times. Since, 1967 it is located on Israel’s territories.
