Edirne Üç Şerefeli Mosque was completed in 1447, was built
in Sultan Murad’s Period (Amurath II). It is told that the mosque was built by an
architect whose legs were paralysed. The mosque was also called New Mosque or Cami-i
Kebir, people call it as Üç Şerefeli Mosque because of the number of its three
galleried minarets.
Mosque is constructed on six columns at six
corners under a dome and on both sides of this dome there are 8 other domes, four of them
are smaller and four of them are bigger. It is surrounded by 18 columns on which 21 dome
porch is constructed. It has four minarets one of them has 3 and the other one has two
galleries, and the other two have one. |
