He is the brother of
the Mameluke Sultan Kansu Gavri. He represented his brother Kansu Gavri in Cairo. He
replaced Kansu Gavri after he died in Mercidabik War (1516). Sultan Selim I proposed to
establish an autonomy in Cairo but Tumanbay refused this offer and organised a defence
line against the Ottomans. He came across with the Ottoman Forces in Ridaniye (1517). He
lost the war and escaped. Cairo invaded by the Ottoman Empire. Tumanbay tried to return
Cairo but he was arrested and executed. |
