| Ibrahim Sinasi was born in Istanbul in 1826. After completing his primary education in Tophane Fevzite School he joined to the Tophane Misriyeti Kalemi as a civil servant. Where, he took lectures on the eastern sciences, and Arabic from a civil servant named Ibrahim Efendi. Later, he learned French from a French soldier. He published “Tercuman-i Ahval” journal with Agah Efendi and “Tasvir-i Efkar” journal alone (1826). Many young writers such as Ahmet Vefik Pasha and Namik Kemal wrote for this journal. He tried to found a library by publishing books. He was dismissed from his duty in Meclisi Maarif because of his articles criticising the government. He stayed in Istanbul for two years and then he escaped to Paris by leaving his journal to Namik Kemal. He was interested in linguistics in Paris. He started to prepare a Turkish dictionary. He established relations with the Young Turks but he did not interested in politics. He returned to Istanbul, in 1870 and died of a brain tumour. He is the first and the most influential name of the Turkish Literature. He wrote the first drama in the Turkish Litarature “Sair Evlenmesi” (Poet’s Marriage). | ||
