He was born in Genoa, in 1432. He became Savona Bishop in 1467, Amalfi Bishop in 1473, and Cardinal Bishop of San Lorenzo in Luciana. He was elected the Pope in August 1484 by the support of Guliano Della Rovere. He appointed his 13 years old nephew as the Cardinal. He had Belvedere in Vatican built as a residence of his nephew. Many revolts had begun in Rome, against his policy. The revolts were repressed easily. His relations with the King of Napoli Ferdinando of Aragon had ruined and the Pope imposed taxes to the king, in 1486. He declared a decree to struggle against the corruption of the religion. He had sent a Crusade Army against the Count of Vaud. He celebrated the invasion of Granada by the Catholic Kings with ceremonies. |
