He was born in Tosya, in 1801. He was a
calligrapher and a composer. He began his education in Fatih Medrese and attended the
lessons of Komurcuzade Hafiz Efendi. Sultan Mahmud II was impressed by his beautiful voice
and took him to palace. He studied music, calligraphy, language and literature for 6 years
in the palace.
He stayed in the palace until Abdulmecid had ascended the throne. After
that, he became the imam of the Eyup Mosque and the second Imam of the Sultan. Later, he
was appointed to be the Anatolian and Roumelia Judges, he taught calligraphy to the
Shehzadahs (sons of sultans). He left the palace in 1852.
He wrote one Koran, 30 enams, 200 hilyes and hundreds of pates. The
writings in Hirka-i Serif, in Buyuk Mosque in Kasimpasa, in Ayasophia Mosque and on
Istanbul University’s gates belong to Mustafa Izzet Efendi. He composed 20 songs. He
died in Istanbul, in 1876. |
