He was the grandson
of first Lebanon Emir Fahreddin and son of Korkmas. Maanoglu Fahreddin was born in 1572.
After his father’s death the Ottoman Empire appointed him as the emir of Lebanon.
He carried strong relations with the Ottoman Empire. His
target was an independent Lebanon and he allied with the Governor of Aleppo whom revolted
against the Ottoman Empire. With this alliance he extended his territories from Northern
Lebanon to Sayda, Beirut, Safad, Banyas and Aclun.
In 1612, the Ottoman Empire sent an
army on Fahreddin II whom signed a trade agreement with the Florentines. Fahreddin was
defeated by the Ottoman Army commanded by Hafiz Ahmed Pasha.
Fahreddin tried to emerge a power in
Europe but he failed. In 1618, the Ottoman’s gave permission for his return in one
condition that, his son Ali would have remained as the Emir. Despite of this condition
Fahreddin continued his independence struggle. At last he was caught and executed in
Istanbul. |
