Lala Sahin Pasha lived in the same period with Orhan Ghazi. He was the tutor of Sultan Murad Hudavendigar and he had an important role in the education of Murad. He was a significant figure in Ottoman extension in Rumelia. After the death of Orhan Ghazi’s son Suleyman Pasha he replaced him as the governor. He commanded all Ottoman forces in Rumelia. He is the second person who carried the rank of Governor (Beylerbeyi) in the Ottoman history. He conquered Edirne, Filibe and Zara in the sultanate of Murad Hudavendigar. He defeated the Crusade Army composed of 60.000 soldiers that came to recapture Edirne. The Ottoman Forces were insufficient to defend Edirne. Lala Sahin Pasha sent Haci Ilbey with an army of 10.000 soldiers. Meanwhile, he organised a defence line, but Haci Ilbey defeated the Crusaders with a sudden attack and won the triumph of Sirpsindigi. It is rumoured that Lala Sahin Pasha had poisoned Haci Ilbey out of jealousy. Lala Shain Pasha had built an Islam Theology School in Bursa and a mosque in Mustafakemalpasa. He died in 1376. |
