He was one of the grandchildren of Mevlana (the founder
of the Mevlevi sect). He became vizier in 1458, grand vizier in 1478. He assisted Sultan
Mehmed II, while he was preparing his Code of Laws. Karamani Mehmed Pasha wrote
prose and verse by using “Nisani” pen name. His most famous work is History of
Ottoman Sultans. He supported Cem Sultan in his throne struggle
following the death of Mehmed The Conqueror. He was killed by the supporters of Sultan
Bayezid II. His tomb is in the courtyard of Karamani Mehmed Pasha Mosque in
Kumkapi. |
