KUYUCU MURAD PASHA

Kuyucu Murad Pasha was born in 1535. It was thought that he was a Croatian. He spent his childhood in the palace. He was appointed as the assistance of the Governor of Egypt, Mahmud Pasha. In 1571, Murad Pasha was sent to Yemen as the governor. He was appointed as the governor of Diyarbakir three times. He was slaved in the Iran Campaign, but he could have escaped and came to Istanbul. He went to Cyprus, Diyabakir and Haleppo.

After the Hungary Campaign, he became the grand vizier and the commander of that country. As a grand vizier he was very successful. He defeated Iran and he repressed the revolts in Anatolia. While he was joining the peace negotiations, he died suddenly, in Diyarbakir. It was thought that, he was poisoned by his enemies. He was given the “Well-sinker”(kuyucu) name, because he killed a lot of people and he had thrown the people that he killed in to the wells. He was a religious man, and it is told that he was a member of the Naksibendi Sect. His tomb is in Vezneciler, in Istanbul.
