Koprulu Mehmed
Pasha was the grand vizier coming from the Koprulu Family. He came to vizirate in the most
depressed period of the Ottoman Empire and he administrate the government very
successfully. He was born in Vezirkopru in Samsun. His first years was rather bloody but
his actions was always supported as he was a very brilliant statesman. He became the grand
vizier by an arrangement he made with the sultan, in his 75th year.
Firstly, he organised the internal issues and he composed a strong navy
and held the Canakkale Strait. Afterwards, he had defeated the Venetian Army and protected
the islands of Bozcaada and Limni. He repressed the revolt of the Wallachian Prince. He
had put an end to the Abhaza riots in Anatolia and brought peace to the cities. He
reorganised the economical affairs of the state. While he was preparing for a war with the
European States, he died in 1661, in Edirne. His son Fazil Ahmed Pasha had replaced him. |
