Koca Sinan Pasha was born in Albania, in 1520. He was
taken to the palace as a “devsirme” and he worked in the palace as the chief of the
kitchen in the sultanate of Suleyman The Lawgiver. He left the palace with the rank of
Malatya Governor. He served the empire in different regions as Kastamonu, Gazze, Nablus,
Erzurum, Aleppo and Egypt. He won “ The Conqueror of Yemen” title after he repressed
the Yemen Revolt. He completed the conquest of Tunis, in 1504. He supported the idea of
war against Iran. His suggestion was accepted, despite of Sokullu Mehmed Pasha’s
refusals. He became the Commander of Iran. Koca Sinan Pasha became the grand vizier after
Sokullu Mehmed Pasha had murdered, in 1580. After he failed in Iran Campaign, he was
dismissed and he was appointed to Sam as the Governor. He became the grand vizier in 1588
for the second time. He revealed his channel projects but he could not have succeeded in
these projects. He was dismissed from his duty and exiled to Malkara. After 18 months he
returned to Istanbul as the grand vizier for the third time. He captured Tata and Yanik
Castles in Austria Wars. When Sultan Mehmed III had acceded the throne, he dismissed Sinan
Pasha. But, in the same year, he became the grand vizier for the fourth time. He had had
Ferhat Pasha executed. He appointed his son Mehmed Pasha as the Austria Commander. Sinan
Pasha campaigned through Wallachia, but, Prince Mihail had defeated him. Sinan Pasha was
dismissed following this failure and exiled to Malkara. After ten days of exile he was
invited to be the grand vizier for the fifth time. While he was preparing for a campaign
to Austria he died(1596). |
