Russian Tsarina Katarina II was born in 1729. She was a
German and she married Char Pedro III. After Pedro’s death, Katerina II ascended to the
throne. She repressed the Pugachev revolt in 1774-1775. She had made reforms in judicial
procedures, economy, and state administration. She took Crimea from the Ottoman Empire,
and invaded the eastern part of Poland. She corresponded with Voltaire and Diderot and she
is usually known as “Katerina The Great”. She died in 1796. |
