Abaza Pasha was the
treasurer of rebellious Halep Deputy Canbolatoglu. With the defeat of Canbolatoglu, Abaza
Pasha was caught by the Ottoman Army. However, he was forgiven by reconciliation of
Yeniceri Commander Halil Aga. In 1621 he was appointed as The Governor of Erzurum(East of
Anatolia). With execution of Sultan Osman II, he rebelled against the Yeniceri, Army and
accused them by being murderers of the padisah and he organised the sekbans(soldiers) and
fought with the Yeniceri Army in Erzurum.
Following the death of Sultan Osman II both
in Istanbul and in Anatolia many riots began against the Yeniceri Army. As a result, Abaza
Pasha gained more control in a short period of time. He began to collect taxes and took
many young males in his army. He killed many Yeniceri soldiers. He got control of Sivas
and Sebinkarahisar. Next, he tried to invade Ankara.
After Sultan Murad IV was crowned, the Ottoman Army
defeated Abaza Pasha near Kayseri (Middle Anatolia). As a result of this defeat, Pasha
went back to Erzurum and he retreated to his castle there. Sultan Murat IV appointed him
to be the governor of Bosnia. However, some rumours raised about Pasha’s possible rebel
against Sultan and Pasha was executed in August 1634. |
