Ghazi Husrev Pasha was born in 1480. His father was Ferhad Bey and his
mother was Selcuk Sultana, the daughter of Sultan Bayezid II. His father was
the Commander of Adana and had died in the Ottoman-Kolemen War. His mother had died while
Sultan Bayezid II was alive and she was buried in a tomb near the Bayezid Mosque,
in Ýstanbul. Ghazi Husrev Pasha came to Istanbul with his mother and completed his
education. He went to Kefe; after his uncle Sehzade Mehmed (prince) had been appointed to
Kefe as the Governor. Ghazi Husrev Pasha was very successful in the conquest of Belgrade.
Thus, he was appointed to Bosnia as the governor. He captured, Knin, Skradin, Ostoviha
Castles while he was in Bosnia. He extended the frontiers of his province by new conquests
in the Balkans. He had an important role in the triumph of Mohach with Bali Pasha. They
also captured the Castle of Yaycha and from Hungary. He was sent to Semendire at the end
of 1533, and stayed there for 3 years. He established diplomatic relationships with the
neighbours. He had been appointed to Bosnia as the Governor, for the second time, in 1536.
He died on 18th June 1541 and was buried in a tomb located in the courtyard of
the Mosque carries his name. Besides his conquests and wars, he had made religious,
commercial, and cultural facilities, that played an important role in islamisation of
Sarajevo and its surroundings. |
