Moustapha Chelebi was one of the sons of Sultan Yidirim Bayezid,
and revolted to accede the throne, in the beginning of 15th century. Because he
revolted against his brother Sultan Celebi Mehmed and his cousin Murad
II; he was called Duzmece Mustafa (Fake Mustafa). He was placed in the hearth of
the Ottoman army in the Ankara War, with Hamitli and Teke troops, and he was
slaved after the war, and brought to Semerkant. He was freed after Timur had
died, in 1405, and he returned to Anatolia. He was supported by some of the Anatolian
Turkish Clans, during his struggle for the throne. In 1456, he went to Wallachia, and
established close relationships with Rumelian commanders and statesmen. When he was
defeated by the Ottoman forces, near Salonica, and he took refuge to Salonica with his
vizier Cuneyt. Sultan Celebi Mehmed made an agreement with the Byzantine Empire and
Duzmece Mustafa was imprisoned in the island of Limni. After the death of Sultan
Celebi Mehmed, the Byzantine emperor freed him. Mustafa united his forces and
arrived Gallipoli. Sultan Murad II had defeated him, and he was executed by
his own men, for the reason that he was not from the Ottoman dynasty. |
