Ali Pasha was born in 1670. He was the son of a peasant family settled in Corlu. In the sultanate of Ahmed II, as the foster child of Master Guardian Bayram Aga he entered the army. On 15th October 1700, he was appointed as the guardian of the weapons of Grand Vizier Huseyin Pasha. Under his administration the weapon guardian rank (silahdar) raised to be an important title. He was sent away form the place with the intrigues of the grand vizier and the sheikulislam. He was sent to Edirne with the third vizier rank. He was invited to Istanbul and was appointed as the fifth vizier. In 1703, his rank was raised but in a short time he was sent to Tripoli as the governor. Later, he returned to Istanbul and appointed as the grand vizier on 3rd May 1706. In 1708, he married to Emine Sultana the daughter of Sultan Mustafa II. After he had been raised to the grand vizier rank, he had began a restoration in the financial issues of the empire. He tired to control the palace’s expenses. He put emphasis on the military issues. He reorganised the military corpses and build new artilleries. In Swedish-Russian War he favoured Sweden. His target was to fatigue the Russian army against a potential Ottoman-Russian war. After, Russia had defeated Sweden, Ali Pasha had lost the favour of Sultan Ahmed III and dismissed form his duty. The Sultan exiled him to Kefe. He was condemned to death with the firman of Seikulislam Seyyid Ali in December 1711. |
