Candarli Kara Halil Pasha, was the son of a
man called Ali, who is from Cendere Village of Sivrihisar county of Karaman (Central
Anatolia). His real name was Halil, but he is commonly known by his nicknames
“Dark”and “Karaca”, and in his viziership he was called as “Hayreddin”.
He became the judge of Bilecik with the favour of famous Sheyh Edebali the
last years of Osman
Ghazi. The most important service he did as the judge of Bilecik is very neatly
organised “infantrymen”. After the conquest of Ýznik, he was designated as the judge
of Ýznik by Orhan
Ghazi. He became the judge of Bursa which was the new capital of the Ottoman
State, in 1348. After the ascend of Sultan Murad Hudavendigar , he became the first
Chief Military Judge of the Ottomans. Later, the law was made; saying; “Chief Military
Judges will go to wars with the sultan”. Yeniceri Recruit and Janissary Corps was
established by Dark Halil Pasha too. Besides, he played an important role on the Ottoman
financial organisation with Karamanli Molla Rustem. He became a vizier and
an army commander together. He invaded Salonica, Manastir and Ohri. He was benefited from
the throne struggles in Albania and, the Ottoman army advanced through Kroya and Ýskodra
in 1386. Sultan
Hüdavendigar left Halil Pasha in the Balkans and began to organise a new campaign
against Karamanogullarý, but, Halil Pasha became ill in Yenice-i Vardar and after a while
died in Serez. Candarli Halil Pasha was a successful administrator and a wise statesman. |
