BARBAROS HAYREDDIN PASHA

Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha was born in 1478 in the Island of Midilli. His father was an Ottoman Sipahi. His brother is a famous soldier to, because of his scarlet beard the Europeans gave him the name “Barbarossa”(red beard).

Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha and his brothers Ilyas and Oruc, fought many sea wars. After the invasion of Algeria, his brother Oruc Captain was appointed the deputy of Algeria. Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha came to Istanbul in 1534 and became Kaptan-ý Derya (Admiral).

He was a very intelligent and courageous commander. He was physically very big and a heroic man. He lived in the seas all his life. He had spoken, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, Italian and French.

He died in 1546 and buried in Istanbul.
