Baki is a famous divan poet. His real name is Mahmut Abdulbaki and he was born in 1526 in Istanbul. He had medrese education. During the period of Suleyman the Magnificant Baki was discovered by his brilliance and took into the palace. After the death of Suleyman the Magnificant, he was appointed to be the Kadi of Mecca and Istanbul in the periods of Sultan Selim II and Sultan Murad III. Although Sultan Murat III exiled him for a while, he was for given and came back to Istanbul again. His important works are, Mevahibi Ledünniye, Fezaili Cihat, he has many translations as well.
