Abdullah Bey was born in 1867, in Istanbul. He was the sheikulislam who declared a “fetva” (religious command) to execute Mustafa Kemal and his followers. He was the son of the Chief Judge of Roumelia Vizier Durrizade Mehmed Durri. He had worked in different government offices. Between 1910 and 1912, he worked as the Chief Judge of Anatolia but the Party of Union and Progress dismissed him. On 5th April 1920, he was appointed as the Sheikulislam in the fourth cabinet of Ferid Pasha. He gave his famous fetva to Ferid Pasha to execute Mustafa Kemal and his followers. His duty had been terminated by Ferid Pasha’s dismiss on 30th July 1920. After the National War had been won, he went to Rhodes and then to Hejaz he took refuge to Sherif Huseyin. In 1923, he died in Hejaz. |
