He was the first independent King of Jordan. His father was Huseyin Bin ali the Emir of Hijaz. He was educated in Istanbul. In 1908, he joined the Young Turks. After the declaration of the Second Constitution he entered the state Council as the Hijaz deputy and appointed as the Serif of Mecca. In 1920, the National Arab Congress in Sam had chosen him as the King of Iraq and his brother Faisal as the King of Syria. Emir Faisal was opposing the French authority in Syria and he was supported by the British. But, in the same year the French blockaded Sam and the Arabs intentions were destroyed. Abdullah bin Huseyin invaded Jordan and threatened Syria and Britain had accepted to establish an Arab government in Jordan. Abdullah to realise his plan about an independent Jordan supported the British in the Second World War. In 1946, Britain gave independence to Jordan and Abdullah ascended the throne. In 1947, United Nations decided to establish a Jewish State in Palestine. Abdullah was the only Arab ruler supported this decision. However, in 1948, the Jordan’s Army marched on Israel and invaded Jerusalem, after two years Abdullah declared that he occupied western Sheria as well. He was assassinated by a Palestinian nationalist. His son Tallal succeeded him. |
