Generally, it is the name given to the reforms of Sultan Selim III. As Selim III acceded the throne he started an extend renovation and improvement movement inspired from the European reforms. It is; also the name of the modern army established as a part of these reformation movements. This army was formed as a department in the yeniceri corps but it was organised with an intention to abolish the old-fashioned yeniceris.
