It was one of the 24 tribes of the Oguz Branch of the Turks. The tribe’s sacred animal was falcon. The first information on the Oguz Branch was revealed in Mahmud of Kashgar’s Divunu Lugati’t-Turk (Dictionary of the Turks). In Resideddin’s Camiu’t-Tevarih the pre-Islamic period of the Oguzs was revealed. Kayi Clan was very important as the Ottomans were coming from this clan.
