ETNIK-I ETERYA

Etnik-i Eterya is an association founded by Emanuel Ksantos, in 1814. The target of the association was to certify the Greek Independence War and independence movements. At first they have arranged a meeting to incite the Greeks living in the Ottoman territories and they took the decisions as below:


1-The Filomos Association in Athens will join to Etnik-i Eterya and the young Greeks educated with the Western culture and active in this association will be used.

2-In order to provide the necessary finance resources new trade companies will be establish.

3-Participation of the Greeks tradesmen, famous and privileged families, respected clergy will be provided by the association.

The assistant of Char Alexander, Alexander Ispilanti was appointed as the president of the association, on 12th April of 1820. Etnik-i Eterya played a significant role in the revolutions in Wallachia, Moldavia, Mora (1821) and Kyrete (1897). During the fall of the Ottoman Empire their basic aim had gained an imperialistic identity with the utopia of “Megalo Idea” (Great Greece).
