CANAKKALE FRONT (The Gallipoli)

Canakkale Front is the most successful front of the Ottoman Empire in the first world war. The most bloody war of the history had been taken place in this front.

England and France were aiming to direct the prognoses of the war on their advantage by allying Russia. Russian economy had been so declined that it could not carry the war anymore.

The Allies arranged an operation towards the Dardanelles (the Canakkale Straits) in order to leave the Ottoman Empire outside the rank, to supports the Russian Army with the necessary military supplies as fastest as; they made an expedition on the Strait of Canakkale. On 18th March 1915, the Ottoman Army very successfully defended the strait against the British and French attacks. The allies lost power and on 25th April 1915, they landed on Ariburnu but they were stopped in Conkbayiri by the Turkish Army commanded by Mustafa Kemal. After this victory, Mustaf Kemal was promoted to colonel rank.

The British forces commanded by General Harrigton had attacked on 6th and 7th August 1915, again. The Anafartalar Group Commander Mustafa Kemal defeated them on 9th and 10th of August in Anafartalar. On 17th August the Turkish army won the Kirectepe victory and this victroy was followed by the second Anafartalr victory.

In Gallipoli Wars, 253.000.000 Turkish soldiers were dead, most of them were in their very young ages. The British and French armies loss is as much as the Turks. They retreated from Anafartalar and Ariburnu on 19th and 20th December 1915, on 8th and 9th January 1916 from Seddulbahir.
